I was able to play around with the features but could not save my work. The messages “Updating failed” and “Publishing failed” took turns mocking me at the top left of the screen. Switched to default 2017 theme, disabled all other plugins, no joy. Checked wp-config.php for an issue reported on GitHub – still no joy. Just reporting the bug, not asking for help.

Hi there, let’s see if we can help you a little more with your issue. Coudl you let me know a little more about what browser you are using and the version of Gutenberg?

I’m having the same issue. Should I create a new issue?
Editing a page. Enter text, Click Update, then Update that appears.
    Receive ‘Updating Failed’ message
    Running WP 4.9
Tried to update the same page in:
    Chrome Canary version 64.0.3273.3 (64-bit)
    Chrome version 62.0.3202.94 (64-bit)
    Firefox version 57.0 (64-bit)
    MS Edge 40.15063.674.0

Google Chrome Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (32-bit)

I installed and tested on the same day, so – Gutenberg version was current at the time.

    It happens here as well.

Tried both on www.ads-software.com 4.9.1 and on www.ads-software.com nightly releases.

Tried both gutenberg 1.8.1 and on gutenberg 1.9.0.

Tried on several different browsers: latest chrome, old Internet Explorer, Safari… it’s NOT a browser issue.

The chrome console reports an error in load-scripts.php?…
    https://server.com/path/to/wordpress/wp-json/wp/v2/posts/37 403 (Forbidden)

I was having this issue when trying to publish the demo content, but as soon as I created a new post/page and added custom content everything has been working fine. I’m curious to hear from others if they might be doing something similar.

Updated to gutenberg 1.9.1 and no changes, still unable to update/publish posts.

I had a similar issue. The Editor answered “Updating failed” In the Console there was this error-message: “Failed to load resource: the server responed with a status of 405 (Method Not Allowed)”.

I was running the site local on my Computer with IIS. So this solution is for windows computers. (It’s a german interface, I will try to translate the names)
    The solution for me was:

    1. Open IIS
    2. Go to Handler Mappings (Handlerzuordnung)
    3. Search PHP (maybe there are diffrent Mappings for your PHP)
    4. Click on Edit
    5. Click on Restrictions (Einschr?nkungen…)
    6. Go to Inherit (Vererben)
    7. Select inherhit all (Alle Vererben)
    8. Restart your IIS

    I also have this problem.

I have Gutenberg active on one subdomain in a multisite network (not network enabled) and it simply keeps repeating “Update Failure” across the top. Can’t publish, can’t preview, can’t save.

Also, the Gutenberg editor itself won’t even load unless I deactivate https for the site. Once I allow “unsafe scripts” in my browser (tested in Chrome, FF, and Opera) I can access the editor.

Updated to plugin version 2.0.0 but the “updating failed” error is still there ??

I have tried using this plugin over the last few months with no luck. I recently created a fresh WP install and run it with no other plugins. I can never update posts or create new posts. I don’t get an error message. Updates claim to succeed, but when I view the post the old content is still there. Creating new posts never completes, just spins forever.

I am using Chrome and there are no javascript errors noted in the console.

    * Following up, I found some error logging when attempting to create a new post:

PHP Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$post_content in …./wp-content/plugins/gutenberg/lib/plugin-compat.php on line 29

I am happy to report that version 2.1.0 seems to have fixed the problem for me. I can now update and publish posts.

Found time to circle back and retry. Works now. And … I don’t hate it. Works about as well as TinyMCE for me. Still don’t get it though. Why is this being rushed into core? Why is the WP team – who I greatly respect and owe tremendous gratitude – determined to destroy their hard-earned good will and credibility by forcing this on a loyal community whose majority do not want or need it? Please, please. please, come to your senses. Utilize your proven excellent judgement. Publish this as a plugin. Let it prove itself. Then – somewhere down the road (a year, or five maybe) consider moving it to core if and when the WP community concurs.

I’m having problems saving on Gutenburg. Either “Publishing failed” or” Updating failed”
It lets me save to draft.
When I try using preview it just freezes on
    please wait….
    Generating preview
    and nothing happens

I am using Firefox quantum 61.0.2 (64 bit)
    1/ AwardSpace Hosting domain,
2/ Contabo VPS (running windows server 2012)
Have just loaded WordPress Site yesterday 10/8/2018 with Gutenburg 3.4.0
I’m heading back to Classic now, so I can produce something.

    kind regards,

    Max
