• Can anyone recommend a method of updating a bunch of WordPress installs at once? We have a couple of dozen, and every time there’s an update it takes more than a few minutes to log in and hit some buttons.

I’ve been Googling and have hit up a few sites that offer this sort of thing, but I thought perhaps someone a lot smrter than me could point me in the right direction or away from a wrong one.

While you can pull individual sites into a “multisite network” – and that’s what this section of the forums deals with: one WordPress installation/set of core files, themes and plugins for multiple sites – that can create a whole lot more problems than it solves if all you are looking for is a way to quickly update sites.

For quickly updating and managing multiple sites, you might want to look at Manages WP (which is a paid solution, but lets you try out their service with 3 sites for free), or Infinite WP (a self-hosted solution where the base level application is free, but there are some nifty add-ons at a reasonable cost).

I used to use Manages WP, but found I wasn’t using a lot of the features it includes, so I couldn’t keep justifying the cost. About 6 months ago I switched over to Infinite WP. Except for a time when the host of some of the websites I was managing block the IP of the self-hosted account, I’ve been very happy with Infinite WP.mana
