Updating Polylang manually – any risk or best practise ?

Hi!
Polylang is amazing! I have a question about updating without connexion to www.ads-software.com servers.
I think (but could be wrong) that updating a plugin in that case involves deactivating it and deleting it before feeding WordPress with the updated ZIP.
But what will happen to my installed languages, to the links between translated posts, etc ? Will they be back when the new version of Polylang is installed ?
I *think* all translations are preserved, but there’s more to it than translations, hence this question ??
Thanks for advice, and if there’s a “safer” way to update Polylang in the situation described above, I’d be happy to know
