    Hi there,

I have this website using the variation swatches for woocommerce – pro, and the variation’s attribute is now called ‘testatr1’. We find it not meaningful, and we wish to update it (probably on the fly as the current database is quite huge and we are worried that updating the product’s attributes name/slug can cause issue) into something more meaningful (e.g.: variation_name).

    How can we do this?

    Kindly advise,

    Frans

    Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us. You can simply edit the attribute title from the attribute edit page.

Note: It is not recommended to change the slug, because, the attribute type stored depends on the slug of an attribute. By changing the slug, you will lose your attribute setup.

    Thank You

    Hi fizanzvai,

    Thanks for the reply.

Just want to ask if changing the attribute title will have disrupt any links? like maybe on menu, product pages/other related links

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Changing only the title(name) of the attribute will not affect your settings. But, please don’t change the slug – https://paste.pics/S6933

    Thank You

    Hi fizanzvai,

I have done so, but when i click on product variation in the website, it is still using ‘attribute_testatr1’ in the URL.

Is there any possibility that the code were updated somewhere by my other colleague (who left the company earlier this year)? If i browse the database (particularly in postmeta table), i am seeing lots of ‘testatr1’ meta_value in ‘_product_attributes’ meta_key

    Kindly advise,

    Frans

    Hi,

Changing the title/name will not change the URL. The URL is displayed based on the slug you have entered.

If you want to change the slug you have to do it carefully on your own. You have to change all the testatr1 found in all the tables of the database. As I said in my last replies, the Swatches data are saved using the slug. I think this article will help you to change the testatr1.

I recommend trying it first by creating a staging site. If you think everything is working well on the staging then apply it for your production site.

    Thank You

    Hi fizansvai,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have just checked, there is really a lot of instances of ‘testatr1’ in the database.

Coming back to my initial question, is there a way to update the attribute name in the URL?

So for example, if i key in this URL:
https://madeandmake.sg/shop/brands/new-works/kizu-table-lamp/?designer=Lars%20Tornoe&variation_name=Small%20-%20Black, then it will work and show the correct variation on the page itself?

    Thank you in advance,

    Frans

    Hi,

For your information, the attribute slug and the URL is a feature of WooCommerce itself. Our plugin just uses it when you click on a swatch. The link https://madeandmake.sg/shop/brands/new-works/kizu-table-lamp/?designer=Lars%20Tornoe&attribute_testatr1=Small%20-%20Black will still work even without our plugin.

As far as I know, it is not possible. Still, you can contact WooCommerce support, if you have further queries.

    Thank You

    Hi fizanzvai,

    Thank you for the info.

Ok then, i will try to contact them. If it is not possible as well, then i will follow your suggestion to update the slug.

    Thank you,

    Frans

    Hi fizansvai,

I have tried to contact woocommerce and attempted the setting, but it does not work. It seems like our website’ code was modified (probably in the variation swatches’ files) so that the permalink is not showing as per the woocommerce/wordpress’ permalink page.

That is fine, so now we are just thinking to find a way to update the word ‘attribute_testatr1’ in the parameter (not the permalink structure) into ‘attribute_variation’.

Btw, the parameter is showing when this ‘Generate variation url’ is ticked inside page ‘Swatches – Advanced’. So would you be able to let me know which file(s) that i should be looking at?

Alternatively, not sure if this is fine, but since we have purchased the plugin (even the pro version), are you able to send me the original plugin code so that i can compare with the current code that i have here now?

    Kindly advise,

    Frans
