    Hi there,

Child themes never get updated, which is why it’s safe to add CSS/PHP/files to them.

If the parent theme hasn’t been altered, it’s safe to update.

Let me know if you need more info ??

    Hello Tom,

Then what is the point of updating the parent theme if it cannot update the child theme? Is there any advantage to updating the parent theme then?

The parent theme holds all of the actual theme code, which we add to/fix/improve. The child theme is just a shell which sits on top of the parent theme code.

The parent theme needs updating, but the child theme doesn’t have any code it in by default, so it doesn’t need updating.

    No problem ??

but if you have copied any PHP or CSS codes from parent theme to child theme and edited them, you need to check if the respective files in the parent theme have been updated and make changes in your child theme accordingly. This is why I don’t like child themes and appreciate the elements in GP premium.
