updating to 1.5.25 hangs website

I haven’t upgraded yet and my site is still fine. What did you have to do to fix your site? It seems ok now. Is this update safe????

@marcrjacobs you can freely update the Plugin.

@pwaara 1. Please note that it is probably a conflict with your other Plugins. Please firstly deactivate other Plugins and afterwards, update the Photo Gallery Plugin.
2. Please first update the Plugin to 1.5.23 version, then to 1.5.24, and then to 1.5.25 version. Please do not update instantly to the 1.5.25 version in order to understand which version causes the issue.

3. Also, please check whether you have errors in PHP error log.

You can contact your Hosting server and ask them to provide this information.

Just to let you know, I did the upgrade from x.21 to x.25 without incident. All my galleries are perfect.

After several hours of debugging, here is what I found. The problem is a combination of Photo Gallery 1.5.25, Really Simple SSL, and the use of the Photo Gallery widget that is set to display 12 random images out of a dozen galleries with hundreds of photos each. I did not have the time nor the resources to determine where the bug was introduced between 1.5.22 and 1.5.25.

If I let the website load uninterrupted, it would eventually display the page after more than four minutes. (This is on a 2 core 4GB SSD VPS,so reasonably fast.) It appears that forcing the page to use SSL (which the Really Simple SSL plugin does) and how Photo Gallery chooses the random photos is what is bogging down the site.

I cannot recommend my client updates to the latest version or the plugin until this problem is fixed. The issue does not exist in Photo Gallery 1.5.22.

Neither the plugin in your link above nor the recently released 1.5.26 fix the issue. If the widget is used, the page display time is over 4 1/2 minutes.

My site is hanging up FOREVER and eventually ends with an ERROR since I updated to 1.5.26. If I deactivate the photo gallery the site works fine. How can I restore the previous version of photo gallery??????

@pwaara are you sure that the conflict is with Really Simple SSL? If yes, please send to us the settings of Really Simple SSL because we could not get your issue on our side.

@ctruc you can download the previous version of the Photo Gallery Plugin from here . However, before restoring please navigate to Photo Gallery > General > Include styles/scripts on gallery pages only > and select Yes.

Yes, I am sure. With Really Simple SSL activated, it takes 4+ minutes to display. Deactivate it and it displays quickly. Please note, that the conflict is with Really SSL and the Photo Gallery widget. You must have the widget on the page you are trying to display to see the problem. Also note that in this case, there are thousands of photos it is working with, so that may contribute to the issue.

Yes, that option is toggled correctly but the website still hangs up and times out with a “502 error” after a long period of time.

What is the procedure to load a previous version of the gallery???? We need to go back to 1.5.22.

Any update on this? The bug still exists in 1.5.27.

@ctruc You can get previous versions by going to the advanced view https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/photo-gallery/advanced/ and at the bottom, select the version you want and select download. You will need to manually install the old version by deleting the current version and ftping the old version to your server.

This used to be a decent plugin, but it has gone significantly downhill the last few versions.
