Updating Photo Gallery to 1.5.25 hangs our website, both on the frontend and the backend. The hang is definitely caused by Photo Gallery. The current version we have installed is 1.5.22. We are running WordPress 5.2. PHP version is 7.1. Debugging is difficult, because once the plugin is updated we cannot access the site at all, and we have to restore from backup to get the site running again. There are no errors in the PHP log. Any help?

  • Not sure what happened but it is actually loading today after about a 2 minute load time. I thing my web support may have played with some settings. It still isn’t right though. I may have to reload a backup for my site.

If I manually reload the gallery files am I going to lose all of my 600+ photos?

Mine also eventually loads after more than four minutes. The problem is with the gallery widget. I assume you have a gallery widget on the page that is slow, correct?

No, you will not lose you photos if you install an older version of plugin. The plugin files are under the plugins directory and your photos are in your uploads directory.

    Hi,

Please accept our sincere apologies for the late reply.

Our developers were trying to duplicate the issue which you are experiencing with?

We have activated Really Simple SSL, SSL certificate is installed, and everything works properly and fast.

The only thing that was working slowly was activation of Really Simple SSL which lasted about 30 seconds. We have 200 images on our Photo Gallery installed and 20 images are displaying in the widget. And we have checked in the different pages. Could you please tell us the parameters of your hosting server? Our developers will try to replicate them in our local hosting and get the issue.

    Thank you!

    Have a nice day!

    Hi,

Please try to install the following version of Photo Gallery Plugin and let us know if it works properly.

    Thank you!

    Have a nice day!

Updated from 1.5.14 to 1.5.27 today, and having this or similar problem.
Want to follow pwaara’s advice to downgrade to 1.5.14, but concerned I will
have to re-populate all the galleries and pages that use them?
Can I delete plugin and re-install manually without having to re-create everything? All that info is in the db… doesn’t delete/install reset all the photo-gallery db tables?
Please advise how to downgrade without losing any of the galleries, labels, etc.
    Thanks.

Not sure what parameters you want or where to find them.

HOW do we delete the existing gallery and reload the last working version???????

    Thanks

    @ctruc are you asking me?
I think you and I have similar questions/concerns — how to revert to an older copy of the plugin without losing our existing setup.
I know how to delete the current version of the plugin and manually install an older version, but I don’t want to do it yet until I’m sure that all my galleries and pages will be OK.
@pwaara says you won’t lose your uploaded photos, so that’s good, but I’m worried about the galleries I’ve created using the plugin — those galleries are nothing more than records in the plugin’s database tables, and I worry that they will be removed/reset by the delete/re-install.
Can anyone clarify what happens to the photo gallery data (galleries, image data like titles and tags, etc) when you delete and re-install? Is there a way to preserve all of that so everything in the website “just works” again after re-installing?

Do not delete the plugin via the plugins page. You will lose everything if you do that. What I am suggesting is to use FTP. Via FTP delete the files in the plugin/photo-gallery directory. Download and unzip the desired version of Photo Gallery off of the developers page (see my previous post). Upload those files to the photo-gallery directory. You should now be running the older version of the plugin. You might want to try the updated plugin mentioned above first.

@kimabaghdasaryan I will try the new version later today and let you know how it goes.

@kimabaghdasaryan the updated plugin still has the problem. Here are some more details.

Wordpress version 5.2.1 running Sparkling theme (same issue with 2019 theme)
PHP version 7.1 with All PHP Options + OpCache EasyApache profile
All plugins deactivated except Photo Gallery and Really Simple SSL
381M of photos in the uploads/photo-gallery directory
Free version of Photo Galley plugin
Photo Gallery sidebar widget with Type: Gallery Groups; Gallery Groups: All Galleries; Sort: Random; Count: 12; Dimensions: 70 x 70; Themes: Theme 2
    There are 10 Galleries defined
No errors in the error log.

Going to a page with the widget on it takes about 4.5 minutes to display. Going to a page without a widget loads immediately. Removing the widget allows the page to display very quickly. Deactivating Really Simple SSL allows the page to display quickly.

I don’t know what happened, but the problem is not there in version 1.5.23.

    Hi,

@ctruc and @moderndaysisyphus please note that you will not lose any data by deactivating and deleting the plugin from your WordPress Dashboard. Please navigate to the following page and install the previous versions from the below of this page. See the screenshot.

@pwaara I will speak to our developers and let you know when they reply related to your issue.

    Thank you!

    Have a nice day!

    Hi,

@pwaara We are kindly asking you to contact our support team using the following form. We are not able to replicate your issue. So, probably, we will be able to check the issue via Teamviewer.

    Thank you for your understanding!

    Have a nice day!

@kimabaghdasaryan, thank you very much for the clear declaration that the data would be safe… I deactivated 1.5.27, then deleted it, then manually uploaded, installed, and activated 1.5.14 and everything is working again — all the image info, galleries, etc were preserved just as you promised.

The only issue I will note is that somewhere between 1.5.14 and 1.5.27 a new column ‘resolution_thumb’ was added to two tables: wp_bwg_file_paths and wp_bwg_image. These columns are still present even though I’ve reverted to 1.5.14. This is consistent with your statement that the data would not be lost, but it means the database is not quite sync’d with the plugin software. My guess is that it’s harmless in this particular case because the plugin at 1.5.14 doesn’t know anything about those new columns and will probably just ignore them, but I can imagine scenarios (e.g., deleting or renaming columns) for which this method of down-grading could fail when the plugin and database are put out of sync.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi,

Please do not worry, our development team confirmed that it will be harmless.

Any chance 1.5.28 fixes any of the “hanging” issues?????
