• I received this error when attempting to update to 4.2.1:

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: license.txt, readme.html

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

try MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Since the update of 4.2.1 many of my plug-ins are not compatible and my website is going haywire. Displaying very weird.

    Disable all plugins and update.

tried disabling all plugins but didn’t work – any other ideas?

gclemett, open a net topic for your issue.

Tara’s solution should works well and you can wait next verison of WP.

Before you do anything, do full backup in CPanel. ??

I cannot update to 4.2.1. Says “the server page was reset during loading. Please try again later.”

Later never happens! I have talked to my host provider and they are telling me it is not on the server side. It’s not on MY side either…so, I can only assume that there is a problem with the update itself. I have tried everything else.

Can anyone shine some light on this problem? After talking to my host, they are telling me that I am not the only one having problems.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help out here. I am getting ready to upload a whole new site and I’d love to get it done today (Sunday)…I am off today and it would really be great to be able to have access today! ??

    @ldjautobody,
My suggestion would be to start your own thread. That way you stand a good chance of getting full attention to your specific issue. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole. So, please review how and where to post in this support forum: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Where_To_Post

I just noticed that I am also having a problem accessing my site on the first try…hmmmm, makes me think that my host is having problems they are not talking about! I am NOW thinking there may be a “hosting” problem or server problem at the least.

If anyone has any info, please let me know so I can determine whether or not my host is the problem with the update or not. I am seeing a lot of messages about plugins not working after the update also. I will keep reading, but if anyone has any further info, please let me know.

    Thank you,

Thanks @tara. I just now saw your answer. I’ll do that. ??
