• Never had a problem updating WP so after a initial update started, the update timed out.
I then had to leave the current page which wasn’t processing as indicated by the browser and revisit and re-click the starting update button only to see message that another update is in process.
I had to clear it as the database updating was locked with plugin “Fix Another Update In Progress”.

Tried the update again and get the following message:
The authenticity of wordpress-5.9-new-bundled.zip could not be verified as no signature was found.

Most of the time the update times out even with all plugins deactivated.

Tried the update on 2 WP site with the same results.

I think iI’llwait a few days till some new information comes out.

  • Yes, waiting a bit sounds like a good idea.

Also I’ve had that authenticity message when updating to 5.9 and just ignored it – all went fine (I had made a backup beforehand just to be sure).

If a wordpress core update always times out even without any active plugins, I’d look at your hosting. I’ve seen updates time out on underpowered servers, but usually they work fine even on semi-decent servers.

You may also be able to fix that time-out issue by adding this line at the bottom of your .htaccess file:

    php_value max_execution_time 300

    I hope this helps.
