updating wiped out my theme

  • I had a website which had a clear visual structure and theme…after i clicked update wordpress version, the whole thing turned to rubbish in from of me…

    …how can I regain the old version or contain all of my widgets etc into a new theme?…would it be easier starting from scratch again?

    Hi Neil,

    I’m seeing a database connection error on your site now. Without knowing anything else, my first thought is that that theme was updated, overriding customization that was done. (If this is the case, such customization would be best in a child theme.)

    Within your wp-admin dashboard, I’d check the Apperance->Widgets page and the “Inactive Widgets” area. The previous widgets may be there.

    Without seeing the site, I don’t want to say either way on if there’s a way to get the site back to the old way or if starting fresh makes more sense.
