• Hi, wondering if someone knows what I can do.

I have the Merlin Child theme, hosted on Theme Forest. Updated WordPress and it seems to have overwritten the theme with Merlin Magazine. On my dashboard and stuff, it stills says that it’s running the proper theme, but the theme completely disappeared from the site. Also on the now barebones site, it says it’s now ‘powered by WordPress and Merlin,’ with Merlin being a hyperlink to the wrong theme.

Is there a way I can just dis-enable this incorrect Merlin Magazine theme so that the proper Merlin Child theme basically becomes live again? I do have backups, but I’d rather try to avoid restoring as the internet at the office is notoriously slow and I have to do a manual restore, but I don’t even have wordpress and such downloaded.

    Thanks for any help

  • Hi nmo5bz,
If the theme files were overwritten, you cannot undo that from inside WordPress or even FTP. Perhaps your host has an option on their control panel, but if they do they most likely will overwrite from the last backup they have.

You best option is upload the theme again (using with FTP or the built in theme uploader on your site’s dashboard), either from your backup or after downloading a copy from Themeforest.

Please note that you only need to upload the theme folder, it will probably be called “merlin”, to the /wp-content/themes/ directory. You don’t have re-upload WordPress or any plugins etc.

    I hope this helps.

So I’ve had the same issue, repeatedly with a different theme than the original post. Is there a place I can edit the template files to prevent this, so it won’t identify with the incorrect theme again?
