After today’s WP security alert, I wanted to back up everything and do the updates to the theme and WP and all plugins. Here’s everything that occurred.

I decided to install Updraft to make backups easier in the future. Tried to backup to FTP. That failed. So I removed that option to just back it up and then I’ll download it. That failed. I checked the front end of the site at this point and there’s now a new home page there that was created by the plugin. I found an index.html file that the plugin created. I went via FTP to remove the plugin and all files/folders created by it. I was able to remove the plugin but was denied permission to remove the folders that the plugin itself had created, including a folder called “backups”, a folder called “updraft”, and the index.html file.

Here is the error code I get for the folders or individual files I try to delete:
    ________________________
Server said: Could not delete index.html: Permission denied

    Error -144: remote delete failed
    ________________________
I now also don’t have permissions to access wp-admin either. I did put in a support ticket to the hosting company this client is using, but I wanted to see if there was something I could do without waiting for that.

Thank you to anyone who can help me…in advance. ??

    Hi,

UpdraftPlus doesn’t create a folder called “backups”… is there another backup plugin involved?

    Best wishes,

Huh. That’s weird. I didn’t put it there and YOU didn’t put it there. No clue.

I’m getting this debugged with my host now. There are problems on their end as well, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t all start with me trying to remove the plugin via FTP without deactivating. That was dumb of me. I reset the plugins folder and got that all sorted so I could at least get into wp-admin. I think it’s all host problems at the moment. So I’m manually backing up until I know it’s all under control. I’ll keep you posted. THANK you. ??
