Updraftplus has been disabled as a plugin
-
If I hover over the ? (next to the Not Available wording, I get the message “This Plugin is not allowed on our system due to performance, security, or compatibility concerns. Please contact support with any questions”.
I guess this is a hosting constraint and I can’t use it anymore?

Hi,
You will have to contact your host about that and if they are able to disable it or not.
Thanks,
BryleMy experience is that this is on sites with GoDaddy’s Managed WordPress Hosting. Below is a link to to the list of Plugins they have shitcanned, but the page does not provide specifics:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/blocklisted-plugins-8964#backups
Also, here is the message sent on the day it went dead:
Our engineering team has been alerted to a problem with UpdraftPlus WordPress Backup Plugin creating excessive files and using too many server resources on your account. While we investigate a resolution, we are temporarily suspending the use of this plugin.
In addition, we will be removing any UpdraftPlus backups that are older than seven days. The Managed WordPress Hosting Team maintains offsite daily backups for your site and those are always available within your account.
What makes me mad is that they gave no advance notice of the action to block the and as such I was unable to get a download of the site backup that had been locked to prevent deletion.

Yeah, Godaddy really screwed up by disabling Updraft Plus (all of their products). But as previously mentioned… what really ticked me off was that we received zero warning. The email they’re sending out to all of my clients however, is complete rubbish and has all of my clients blowing me up suddenly and wondering WHY their website is over it’s data limit when in fact – it isn’t even close. You can’t even report this to UpDraft unless you’re a paying customer. Nearly 20 to 30 clients of my own will end up losing all of their backups now. It will cost me hours upon hours of making this right for each client. At least 10 of them will demand that I put them into a new host, which will equal far more time lost. UpDraft Plus Backups is completely disabled and everything lost.
Godaddy is really becoming a sorry platform after all. I’ve been faithful for over 20 years to them but this latest move by them is almost worthy of a class action lawsuit. This will cost me so much money and time to fix for all of my clients and when it’s over… I will never EVER put any of my clients into Godaddy ever again. And as soon as I find the time for ME… I’m outta there as well. And something tells me that Updraft Plus is also a part of the problem so I’m done with them as well. Ridiculous.
Hi,
We are reaching out to GoDaddy to try and resolve this, we hope to reach a compromise whereby they remove us from their blocked plugin list.
Their reason behind this is duplicate functionality. Here’s the big problem: Updraft is not just for Backups, but because features are all bundled, ALL features are disabled by GoDaddy.
Updraft needs to come up with a new version of “UpdraftPlus for Managed WordPress” that restricts the number and size of back-ups to avoid violating the restrictive space constraints of GoDaddy’s shared hosting. That would get this plug-in off the blocklist.
I am paying a subscription to Updraft so that I can use Updraft Central to update plugins from a central dashboard. I can’t use that anymore and now need to log-in to all WordPress sites separately to perform plug-in updates. If Updraft can’t fix this problem by separating Updraft Central from the Backups functionality, then I will need to find an alternate central dashboard solution soon.
I also can no longer create a clone of my website using Updraft. These features of Updraft are separate from the backup issue, but none of UpdraftPlus features can be used while this backup space issue is unresolved.
GoDaddy is punishing all Managed WordPress users by not allowing UpdraftPlus due to issues with Backups using excessive storage space. Resolve the storage issue so this plug-in can be used again.
My thoughts exactly, Kathy! It’s almost as if we’re being locked into Godaddy by not being allowed to use our own migration and cloning software. I’m a web developer and the fact that I now need to remedy this with 20+ sites is horrible. I also do WordPress maintenance for my clients and now instead of just running a backup in the clients dashboard, I now have to go through 5 more steps to login to their Godaddy account to do a backup each time. And do their backups even work for being able to migrate a site to some other host if need be?
And of course if you’re paying for Updraft (as I have in the past) – this is an even more awful move by Godaddy. It’s just way too controlling overall and the decision is designed to benefit Godaddy while being a complete inconvenience to their customers. It’s super backwards and their online info about any of it is absolutely useless so far. For instance – if their backups can be used anywhere. I highly doubt it.
Thanks for adding to this discussion! I’m deeply hopeful that somewhere, Godaddy will get the message that they really screwed up on this move. But if they’re moving in this direction in general, trying to make everything all about Godaddy… they can kiss my 20+ years of business goodbye along with all of the clients I’ve signed on to Godaddy and all those I won’t be signing onto Godaddy in the future.
What is missing from @godaddy managed WP backup is:
1. One backup is a bad idea
2. Only one backup on the same system is even worse
3. Not having an offsite backup is crazy
4. Allowing developers to give their client’s a copy of their current data is the right thing to do. I have Updraft set to make a back-up to my client’s cloud so they own their data all the time.
5. Migrating from one host to another is super easy with Updraft. This is helpful when developing on my account and then moving to the client’s account.
