I read your “How do I migrate to a new site…” document and it seems simple enough but I have a question. Once I upload my development [localhost] backup files to the existing website under the wp-content/updraft folder and use the migration tool to “Restore” everything, will it update my wp-config.php file with the restored MySQL database during the search-and-replace old/new site URL’s or is that a manual process? Do you have a recommended plugin to clean out the existing site before the Restore? Thanks.

    Hi,

The Migrator add-on will automatically search/replace URLs for you.

Do you have a recommended plugin to clean out the existing site before the Restore?

What kind of cleaning? (Though, the answer is probably “I don’t” – I’m not particularly familiar with those plugins).

Delete Posts/Pages/prior theme settings/options in database.

My question about wp-config.php was incomplete. Considering that I am now migrating my development MySQL posts/pages/plugins/database to the destination site, does Updraft Migrator modify wp-config.php with the migrated database name/password or is that a manual process? Do I need to include wp-config.php in my FULL backup job?

    Hi,

You don’t need to think about wp-config.php at all. wp-config.php doesn’t need to be touched on the destination site for UD to import the chosen backup set into the database of the WP install that it’s running on.

FYI – I just performed my first UpdraftPlus Migration from localhost to https://sloworkforce.com. The only hiccup I had was the child theme was backed up/restored as well and WP could not resolve a plugin reference in the child theme (all of the plugins were deactivated/deleted before Restore). Once I deleted the child theme, the 500 site error went away and I was able to then log in.
