• Please read the whole thread – many people have added useful information !

This applies ONLY to an upgrade from 1.5 to 1.5.1 – it is not the method to use if upgrading from an earlier version.

It may look complicated – it isn’t!

    1. BACKUP your database
    2. Download 1.5.1. Unzip it.
    3. Open the unzipped folder, and DELETE wp-images. (You have no need for these in an upgrade)
    4. Now open your ftp program and go to your blog directories
    5. On the server, delete the directories wp-admin and wp-includes. Note: If you have “languages” directory in your wp-includes folder (with .mo files) you may want to save/backup those before deleting the wp-includes directory. Upload the new ones.
    6. The Classic and Default themes have been changed slightly so if you wish to, you can upload those to your wp-content folder.
    7. (See the post below this)

    8. On the server and at blog root, delete the old WordPress files and upload new ones. I recommend you do this one by one if you are not sure. Do not delete wp-config.php.
    9. Now run “www.example.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php”

    That’s it.
You don’t go near your wp-content folder so your themes and plugins are perfectly safe. this is a very easy upgrade – probably the easiest one yet for WordPress.

Please use a proper ftp client.

Please don’t think it’s easier to overwrite and not bother deleting files first – you will get errors, you’ll post here for help, we’ll tell you to do it properly, you will and the errors will go away. Far easier to cut that middle stuff out ??

If you wish, you can delete the following files:
    install*.php
    upgrade*.php
    import*.php

  • please ignore this post if someone has answered this but has anybody documented upgrading from 1.2 to 1.51? i upgraded several blogs from 1.2 to 1.51 this weekend and had to upgrade to 1.5 first before again upgrading to 1.51. a bit of a hassle!

    will appreciate all the help!

    1.2 > 1.5.1
You should follow the same path as if you were going to 1.5.0

Why did you upgrade the way you did ? (Not saying you were wrong, just that if something has been missed for people then it needs adding)

I have several blogs that I was too lazy to upgrade when 1.5 came so I just upgraded them when 1.51 came. I kept getting sql errors (unfortunately I wasn’t able to do a screencapture or write the errors down) if I did it from 1.2 and skipped 1.5 so to played it safe I did it the long way. I wrote down the steps I used in my blog:

    https://catsutorials.catsudon.org/?p=23

I’ll have to try it again and post the error I get when upgrading it straight to 1.51.

    Thanks!

I just noticed something strange. In my entry edit screens (for both posts and pages) I am missing the “Next” button for pagination. Is this a singular quirk I’m having or is anyone else missing that button too?

I just want to applaud the WP developers on another job well done! I upgraded and the process went smoothly. So far, I haven’t seen anything happening on my blogs that shouldn’t be. ??

Can’t logout of WP 1.5.1 and have started another thread for answers. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/33265 Has anyone an idea why this is happening?

I’m having the same problem as Cyberhomie and Bwahahax. I followed the instructions from the codex for upgrading, the one that Matt refers to in his 1.5.1 release post. Same problem. Just a blank page. Anyone know how to fix this?

Wierd, after loging into the admin I went back to the home page. Suddenly it was working. I didn’t change anything in the admin but it’s working anyway. Disregard my last post. Thanks.

    BAStats fix:

Add the following to BAStats.php right after the first include:

    require (ABSPATH . WPINC . '/pluggable-functions.php');

Do you suppose I should have mentioned that my fix is a fix in the sense that (a) it gets rid of the error message and (b) seems at first glance to work, as far as I can tell, but is almost totally untested?

    Naaaah.

    A question and a suggestion.

The question: I used wp-images as my upload folder (it seemed like a more appropriate folder than the default wp-content). I can’t see how it would, but is not deleting that folder going to cause a problem?

The suggestion: These upgrade instructions are much more detailed than those in the readme which I followed. I just stumbled across these after doing the upgrade. You might consider putting the updated instructions in the readme.

Upgraded to 1.5.1.2, followed the instructions.

    Links don’t work.
    – Clicking on post titles take me to the most recent post.
    – Clicking ‘previous posts’ stays on the first page.
    – One of my categories (Photos) is a custom archive page, but it doesn’t show the posts from that category.

It’s not the permalinks. I took them off, same issue.

I believe I follwed all of the instructions, although I am in the process of trying everything for the second time.

    I recieved:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_currentuserinfo() in /home/vindaug/public_html/wp-content/plugins/exhibit10.php on line 205

after upgrading. Does this mean I should have deactivated the exhibit plugin before I upgraded?

Ignore my previous post, I didn’t read all of the pages of responses . . .
