Upgrade failed Fatally

  • I attempted to upgrade wordpress from 2.8.5 to current version. It failed and this is the error message I got:
    Warning: require(/home/ugladmin/public_html/BayRealtyApartments.com/public/wp-includes/option.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/ugladmin/public_html/BayRealtyApartments.com/public/wp-includes/functions.php on line 8

    Is there anyway I can go back to what was working 2.8.5?

    Please let me know, I do have ftp functionality only, the website is down and I cannot use the wordpress backend.

  • Do you still have the original files?

    How far along did the update get? Did you see a ‘need to update the database’ message? If the database was not updated you can probably re-upload the original files and be fine. If you don’t have the originals you can get 2.8.5 from the release archive. If the database was updated, you are going to have more trouble.

    Whatever you do, backup the database first.
