• I upgraded from an extremely old install of word press and now I can’t anything running. Its not reading the database, but its not throwing errors either. I am unable to login via wp-admin. I really can’t do anything! When I perform a password reset it does send me a new password, but I am unable to log in with it!

I am afraid I’ll miss a chance for google to index my blog in the next few days if I don’t get this resolved quickly. It also looks really bad if clients go to my blog. I am a web developer who botched a word press upgrade *hangs head*

Argghh as I suspected, just looking at the wp_posts table the data structure has changed between version. I can see the word press developers once thought that enum was a good idea. Heh, didn’t we all. Can’t fault them for changing that except it botched my upgrade.

So I reverted back to all the old files and everything is working again. Looks like I am on version 2.0.5 and was trying to upgrade to version 2.6.5 well its late and I am going to bed. Hopefully someone has insight on my problem.

Suggestion: backup files, SQL as usual and do a slow but sure upgrade from 2.0.5. Upgrade step by step to version 2.1, to 2.2, to 2.3, to 2.5, and 2.6 then 2.6.5. After each new version install, run wp-admin/upgrade.php and run permalinks.
A shortcut which worked for some installs: From version 2.2, Manage > Export XML All authors and import to new install of 2.5 and upgrade to 2.6.5 from there.
