• I finally got the courage to chose the ‘automatic upgrade’ option to upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.9.1

After waiting for an hour, I realized the automatic option would not be quick.

I let it run all night, and it seems the blog is back online, so I was hopeful everything was okay.

When I log into the admin panel, I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function set_screen_options() in /PATH-REMOVED/wp-admin/admin.php on line 49

The upgrade hasn’t stopped – that screen is still blank and the Firefox spnning circle is still spinning.

I”m afraid if I kill it, I’ll be in worse shape than I am now.

What do I need to do to:
    a) ensure the install is finished

    b) regain the ability to login to the admin panel?

I should have just left everything alone as 2.7.1 was working just fine. Sigh.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Michelle

    Update:
I commented out line 49 in admin.php, tried to log in again and now get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function esc_html() in /PATH-REMOVED/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 13

I get the feeling I am so very screwed. On the bright side, the blog is online – I just can’t reach the admin panel.

you need to manually upload the files again – some are missing
