• I have been trying to figure out what might be the best way to upgrade without loosing all my posts. Being that there is no upgrade button in the 2.9.2 version.

I have back all my stuff up and read how to install the newer version 3.5.1 at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress but it really does not explain how to put my posts which I currently have now in wordpress older version. I really don’t want anything to go wrong.

I would appreciate any help ideas or where I can get more information on how the best way to go about this upgrade.

thank you in advance for any information on this matter.

Did you think about exporting all your posts? One way I can think of.

There is an upgrade button in 2.9.2 under tools at least from what I tested.

why did you wait to upgrade?

anyways, upgrade to 3.0, then when on 3.0 click on updates (under dashboard).

You can upgrade from 2.9.2 to 3.5.1 safely.

why did you wait to upgrade?

I am out of the country and on the road for three months at a time, and because there was no notification about any upgrade in 2.92. It was not until I started up a any wordpress site I notice there was newer version.

In my version it is telling me I have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to upgrade. I try to reinstall but it just install the same version.

I have download the version 3.5.1 but I guess my biggest question is what is the best way to upgrade through cpanel and if I install this version will my post still be there?

Since upgrading to version 3.5.1 the form-field titles on my login
page seem to have vanished, ie., there are just 2 empty boxes without the tiltles ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’.
And the submit button is also just a blank button.
Also, normally when you’ve logged out it says ” You have successfully logged out….”. This sentence too has vanished.

Just concerned that users may not know where to type in their name and password.
    Checked with hosting –everything’s OK.
Theme is fine and have not changed any plugins.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

@reddeerdog yes, your post will still be there. The posts are stored in the database and not on any files. ??

You can also try to do a manual install of 2.9.2 or upgrade to 3.0 like Miroslav suggested and then upgrade to 3.5.1

Thanks everyone for all the tips and help with this upgrade with my wp it went fairly painless. Upgraded to 3.1 and then the button appeared in the dashboard to upgrade to 3.5.1.

What is it with people the post in a wrong thread?

    much appreciated
    have a great day

I posted here because I was under the impression that my problem which is related to ‘Upgrading from 2.9.2 to 3.5.1’ matched the title of this thread.
But obviously I was wrong, for which I sincerely apologize.

Believe me, I would have deleted the post if I knew of a way of doing so.
And I’m also experiencing problems logging in after attempting the upgrade to 3.5.1 ( both to this forum and also into my site).
If you could point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.
I hope you have better luck solving your problem than I have had mine.
    Wishing you well.

    Kindest regards, Malik.
