• I have a repeatable issue involving upgrading my wordpress install. I have an old installation (2.8.5) and when I upgrade it to the current (3.1.3) the upgrade completes without a problem.

    After the upgrade, when I create a new page, that new page becomes the home page of my website. It overrides my reading settings where i have set a different page as home. If I delete that new page the home page becomes a 404. Very puzzled by this.

    I disabled all my plugins before the upgrade and did not re-enable throught the issue, so I don’t think this is a plugin issue.

    The theme I’m using is custom, and the home page is handled by a page with a custom template, and that page being selected in my readings settings for the front page option.

    As for my server environment I have a dedicated managed LAMP server hosted with LiquidWeb. I can post exact phpinfo if neccessary.

    This is not the first site I had this issue with, I had the exact same thing happen with another site a few months ago. I ended up rolling both sites back to the prior backups.

  • For starters, you need to carry out a series of smaller upgrades: 2.8.5 -> 2.9 -> 3.0.4 -> 3.1.3
