upgrade issues

I can no longer quick edit to change an authors name. I am also not able to do this through the pug in option of co authors. There are no author name that show. We also have an issue of all drafts can be not be change to visibility- private they are open to be seen by the public. I have done the following:
Dis activated the plug ins. Still have the issue.
Using the 2013 theme.
Tried to FTP all of the install files (expect those in the wp-content files. ) still did not work

Really would hate to delete all and install the back up version with WordPress 3.8 if this can be avoided. Any suggestions on other ways to help.

This problem is the same for both pages and for posts. Thanks
