• Just a minor annoyance, but can we please stop getting “Hello Dolly” installed (and re-installed) with every upgrade/patch?

  • Stupid plugin. I delete this plugin and WP default themes with every update.

I have to second this request.

Yes, please, it’s just annoying :/

    +1

Having it reinstalled over and over is simply annoying.

    Already in the works:
    https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/11538

My bet is that it’ll be made canonical, to demonstrate that new stuff.

BTW, you can vote for tickets on trac, to make them get more attention faster. To do it, look in the top right and click the Login link. Put in your wp.org username and password. Then, just below that login link (under “View Tickets”), is a number with an up and down arrow next to it. Click the up or down arrow to vote for/against a ticket. Higher number tickets tend to get done sooner.

Note: Please don’t leave comments on trac tickets unless you have content of substance to add. I think people want to get away from the “+1” type voting scheme, because it got to be rather annoying to people subscribing to the trac email list.

I think it’s easy enough to uninstall the plugin, and it certainly doesn’t get in the way. It’s a great place for novice WP users to learn the nuts and bolts of plugin development too, so rather than having to find it and install it later to see how it works, it’s there.

I would like to request an upgrade though. Seems time for a new version of Hello Dolly. Maybe some random text colors or something? ??

It’s easy enough to uninstall, but then it comes back when you upgrade, which I suspect annoys people (me, I just ignore it).

I’m kind of fond of it 0:)

You all obviously don’t understand WordPress and its origins very well. Taking “Hello Dolly” out of WordPress downloads would be like taking “Free Speech” out of America…It just shouldn’t happen!!! Besides its one dinky file that takes less than 5 seconds to delete.

Oh, I agree. As an initial install, Hello Dolly is great for demonstrating the plugin functionality of wordpress. And yes, it does have a history with wordpress. But I shouldn’t have to delete it after every update – it would be like reinserting the default “This is an example of a WordPress page” or “Hi, this is a comment” every time I do a core update. If I deleted it, quit re-installing it.

There is a new ticket that addresses this issue a bit more reasonably. Vote it up.
