upgrade to 1.0.2

I tried to upgrade from my old version of wordpress to wordpress 1.2 I saved my print.css, wp-layout.css and index.php. The database part of blog works but it ignores all of my css settings. It looks nothing like my old site. WordPress 1.0.2 is still working but I would like to get this figured out because there are some nice hacks that I would like to use on 1.2.
Also as a side note in wordpress 1.0.2 the picture function has never worked for me. It says it has uploaded it yet it never shows up with you go to the directory it supposedly saves it in.
