• I thought when I upgraded to WP 2.8 some issues with how images show would be resolved but they are not.

Lightbox2 or Shadowbox does not really work at all now. In 2.7.1 they worked on post prior to 2.7.1 but not after. Now nothing happens.

I can install upload images with no problem really, but once they are posted they do not open the way they did in posts prior to 2.7.1

One click used to open Lightbox or when you hovered over the image the cursor changed to a pointing hand. Now the cursor does not change and one must right click then open in a new tab or window.

Images before 2.7.1 will change to a pointing hand.

Has this issue been solved or has everyone resigned themselves to this fact stoically?

Bad Behavior would not upgrade either and messed things up in 2.8

Any solution to the image issues?

    my site is

    https://uraniumcafe-the.com

    if that helps.

  • I’m not exactly sure what this has to do with what version of WordPress you’re using.

As far as I can tell, you don’t have Lightbox installed, at least not on your front page. Make sure you’re using the correct function to load your Lightbox scripts and styles:

    Thanks for the fast reply.

You’re right that I earlier deactivated Lightbox2 after it did not work. I will monkey with it later and check out the links you sent. Thanks.

I am not sure either why it would matter as to the version I am using other than after upgrading from 2.6 to 2.7.1 I began to have to this problem and noticed in some forums other people had similar issues.

I am not too tech savvy with some of this stuff to be honest. Of course people can still open the image and save it if they choose but one cool function for WP that looked great on my B-Movie site was the image viewing option. I can live without it in the final analysis but I am going to try my best to get it back IF it is possible.

Thanks for the help and lets see later what happens.

    I activated Lightbox2.

Now, all posts before installing WP 2.7.1 will work. So, I think prior to May 3rd all posts will work with LB2. After that none will with one exception and that is the post on Queen of Blood, May 24th. But that post was saved from an HTML file from earlier, before may 3rd and reposted later because of some unrelated trouble I was having.

If you left click (my settings) on any image May 3rd or before LB2 opens no problem. If you hover over the image the file name will appear. After that date (except for May 24th as I said which was an HTML backup file from earlier) if you left click nothing at all happens. The image will not open and if you hover over the image nothing happens. It seems to me the problem is not just with LB2 but with the way the images are being stored now and called on. But it is beyond me.

I looked over the links you sent me and I think it is over my head. I am never sure where to put any of that stuff. I may give it a shot one day but I think, as I said, the matter may be more than a LB2 issue. I am going to try Shadowbox JS and see what happens. The last time I tried the same thing: all posts before 2.7.1 okay but after the same as LB2.

    Maybe this time.

    Thanks

Deactivated LB2 and tried the latest version of Shadowbox JS and I have exactly the same problem. All posts published with 2.6 are fine and all posts published after do not work. Do not think it is an issue with the java viewers really but rather with how images are being uploaded, stored and called on later but I do not think I can solve that.

Damn. Thought this would be ironed out in 2.8

    Thanks

    SOLUTION!!!!!

This will work for people having having issues with Lightbox in WP 2.7-2.8. The solution is from mikencaron and I copy/paste it here:

It took me a while to figure this out but aaronmalys gave me the clue.

With the newest WordPress 2.7.1 the link to the larger images DO NOT automatically insert like previous versions. There is an additional step now of pointing to the original image. When you insert image using the “Add an image” button, click “link to image” before you submit it and it should automatically fill out the field and then your lightbox should work again.

Hope this helps someone out there ??

To be sure you understand I did this:

    1) Went to post editor and uploaded an image.
    2) Before inserting the image into the post I clicked FILE URL where it says Insert Image Link, or something like that. You cannot miss it. Under the edit window.
    3) Inserted image then previewed and then published the post and Lighbox2 function was working fine.
    4) Worked with browser uploader and Flash uploader both.

Maybe I missed the boat on this one but if you are still having these issues (and some people are) I hope this helps.

    Addendum:

After doing this once I did not have to keep selecting Insert File URL (at least for this one test post) for the rest of the images. It saved the settings. Do not know if this will work in Shadowbox.

    Bill

So, what you’re actually saying is that you’re not adding Lightbox or Shadowbox? You’re using a plugin that adds one of these two scripts. If this is the case, you should link to the plugin in question next time. ??

    Thread Starter billdancourtney

    (@billdancourtney)

Yes, using a plugin and not code into the HTML editor.

While that problem is resolved I still have an issue that post content will disappear when I click to edit it it later, either in the draft section or after its been published. I mean text and images just vanish. I have done all can to figure this out. While the problem may be Hyper Cache I simply need that for my hosting service.

I cannot find anyone else here having this problem.

    1) I create a post and save it or publish it.

    2) Later I go back to edit it and maybe or maybe not (it does not happen all the time) most of the content is gone.

I restore it from previous post revisions but it simply strange and inconvenient and worrisome. I would feel better if other people had the same problem.

    This was very helpful!!!
Since we dealt with the famous 2.8 auto update and the site crashing and paying $120 to get it fixed, I am glad I was able to get the lightbox on my own DIME ??

    Thanks for the post!

    Cheers,
