Upgrade to 3.0 problem: can’t edit pages from Dashboard

I’ve manually uploaded each file one by one.

Still no access to my dashboard. As I mentioned before I’m able to read, navigate, and comment, but can’t “see” my dashboard. I’d be very surprised if a plugin (and I only have three) would disable the visibility of the entire dashboard.

If I can find a way to do so – I’m about to try to revert to the default theme to see if that works – my theme is a bit heavy on the bells & whistles.

Update (haven’t fixed my site yet, but here’s what I’ve tried):
– Deactivated & reset the plugins folder via FTP & checked using phpMyAdmin.
– Activated the “twenty ten” theme.
– Due to the large number of reports of Platinum SEO being the cause, I deleted all instances of psp_ & aiosp_ using phpMyAdmin (it was activated on the site before so the options still remained in the database).

All three of these in combination didn’t result in a fix for my site =(

I heard some people go back to 2.9.2 by contacting their host and asking to go back 2 days when their site was fine

UPDATE: I didn’t have any posts (the site was entirely based on pages), and that was causing the 404 error. When I created a custom post type, it didn’t have anything in it so it was showing a 404 error because there wasn’t any posts to show.

I went to “Add New” (loaded just fine) for each section that was showing a 404 error… added an item… and now it’s fully working.

This seems like a bug, because I’d imagine that it should show the regular page only without any posts in the list (instead of a 404 error).

@kzeni, actually that is how the blog reacts when there are no posts, just gives the 404 error.

@bdeaton108 I know it does that in the public view (ie. the blog’s homepage), but this was happening on the admin’s “Edit Posts” and “Edit *insert Custom Post Type here*” pages.

For me is was the CMS-like Admin Menu plugin. Disabled and all was fine.

After upgrading to 3.0 the dashboard appeared but plugins, google analytics, wordpress news etc, were in a permanent state of loading.

I couln’t access anything whatsoever, clicking on pages, plugins or anything at all just resulted in “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”.

I renamed my plugins folder from cpanel, I then tried to access my WP dashboard…it worked, and I could edit pages, posts etc although it said I had no plugins installed.

I went back and renamed my plugins folder to it’s original name, and tried the WP dashboard again. All plugins appeared, I just had to activate them all.

Everything seems fine now.

I too received the “not found” message when trying to edit pages.

I deactivated the CMS-like Admin Menu plugin and all is good.

I did my upgrade to WP3 on 7/8 and most of the posts in this string predate that. I have my site on Earthlink and I’ve read about those problems on a closed string.
I can edit existing posts but get a blank screen when I try to add. The command in the browser is to admin-post-new but I have only an admin-post.
Where would I go to get just a file or a folder? Do I have to download the entire WordPress program to get then?

Try re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

As someone else mentioned, the solution is disabling the CMS plugin.

I confirmed that the All on one SEO, Translation, Google Analytics and Page Order plugins work with 3.0

A follow-up for anybody who has the same issue as myself and KZeni. This is specific to custom post types and viewing (/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=posttype) when you dont have any posts of posttype and you get a 404.

Dellbridge’s solution from this post worked for me. You will need access to the code and future updates may break it unless it’s fixed by then, but there it is.
