Upgrade to 3.0 problems

  • It’s a disaster!
    The automatic upgrade didn’t work (never does for me)
    Instructions say, “Place the package in a directory parallel to your current wordpress directory” I made one called acadblog-new
    As best I could I followed the instructions, which sometimes didn’t make any sense. (After unzipping using SSH, as instructed, it later tells me to upload files. I’m very confused.)
    Anyway, I’m going to https://www.ellenfinkelstein.com/acadblog-new/wordpress/wp-admin as instructed in Step 9 (Run the WordPress upgrade program.)
    I get this:
    Warning: require(./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /usr/www/users/ellenf/acadblog/index.php on line 17

    Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /usr/www/users/ellenf/acadblog/index.php on line 17

    How do I delete everything and start over?

    It was the instructions there that I found so confusing and messed me up. Anyway, now I figured some stuff out on my own, but have either a blank page, or (after following someone else’s advice to change the path in index.php), this message:
