CVG author (Praveen Rajan), must give us a clear answer. Can he update the plugin or not? If yes, how much time he needs?
After 2 days of the update of worpress (4.0.1) and nothing officially here from the plugin author.

Are you saying that by removing the quotes from the shortcode, the plugin worked again? I don’t have time to try this right now but maybe someone else can see give it a go and share the results.

For a website that I have with just a few video galleries (few shortcodes on pages and articles) perhaps it will be ok, if it works.
But this is not a solution for me, because I have a website with hundreds of shortcodes on pages and articles. I need something that it will be fix video galleries massive.

That fix from Wyllou – removing the quotes from the shortcode – worked for me. For example, I changed my post from:

[cvg-gallery galleryId=’6′ mode=’showcase’ limit=’100′ /]

to:

[cvg-gallery galleryId=6 mode=showcase limit=100 /]

After one week of this bug and no answer from the plugin author. Is this a dead project?

I removed the quotes in my post/page as suggested by Wyllou and it worked for my site as well. Thanks for the quick fix!

First of all, lets have a big round of applause for Wyllou. Removing the quotes seems to resolve the issue. All I am wondering is….

How did you think to do that?
And why does it work?

I thought that there was some major coding change that was needed (via Charlston Software Associates) so why does just taking those quotes out make everything work fine?

Regardless, even if the plugin employs some “hackery”, I have yet to find another plugin that does what I need as much as this one does. As long as everything is working and our sites are not compromised….. Praveen has been mostly AWOL for years when it comes to support for CVG. My guess is that he has more important things going on in his life then troubleshooting free wordpress plugins.

I do think this plugin is valuable and if Praveen does happen to see this, or someone else who has more skills than I and is game to clean up the plugin (maybe Wyllou?) then it would be a great service to the spirit of independent internet.

I just tried the “remove quotes fix” on a localhost test site. It worked perfectly. I will be doing this fix on my live site later today.

I removed the quotes before doing the wordpress update and the CVG plugin still worked. This means the only video down time on a live site is the minute or two it takes to do the wordpress update.

I updated to wordpress 4.0.1 on my live site, after removing the quote markings from the CVG shortcodes. Worked like a charm.

I did find the shortcode works with or without the quotes when used in a text widget.

The CVG showcase widget works too.

The best bet seems to be,if possible, removing all the quote markings in the CVG shortcodes and then doing the wordpress update.
