• When trying to update a few of my clients’ websites I am getting a blank white screen appear. If I refresh I get an error of “Another update in progress”. Eventually, it resets. I’ve tried deactivating all plugins but that didn’t help.

I am not assuming it’s a theme issue as the websites having this issue are all using different themes.

Are there any suggestions other than having to update manually?

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Hi @thetraininglady,

You may want to check the server’s error logs to understand if there are any PHP Fatal errors or warnings that may be conflicting with the updates.

One recommendation is to check & fix the permissions of all files and folders in the installation to make it writable via the webserver/PHP.

And until we look at the server logs and permissions, it is difficult to speculate what else could be wrong.

Hope to hear from you soon.

There are no errors when I check cpanel > Errors. All directories are showing as 0755 and files are 0644 except wp-config which is 0640.

Not sure what else to check.

    And the reinstall didn’t work?
