• Just updated to WordPress 3.8.3 and the gallery is no longer working and it temporarily caused problems with all the links. I’ve done the troubleshooting there to get the .htaccess file cleared and the permalinks restored but whenever I activate the plugin again it breaks the site and the gallery.

I’ve gone through all troubleshooting steps I can find—using default wp theme, turning off all other plugins except Next Gen and same result. I just got off the phone with GoDaddy and all is to the current versions recommended.

I know sometimes you just have to delete and start from scratch but I have had the experience with NextGen galleries not moving well and we’ve got a fair amount of photos so I’d like this to be the last step. I don’t see a post about this and since the update is very new wanted to post here first and see if there are others. The site is https://elizabethmargolius.com

To plugin author: also happy to upgrade to pro if that will insure success

    thanks

@jefferytodd – If the standard troubleshooting techniques did not show a conflict I am not certain what the issue may be at the root of this problem but it would probably be best to submit a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) with your site specifics so we can have a closer look.

We will need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation as well, please include those with the Bug Report.

    Thanks!

What I haven’t known if I can do is to completely delete the plugin, because I’m trying to not lose the galleries. If I delete the plugin will the gallery folder stay there or will it delete as well??

    Thanks

@jefferytodd – If you delete the plugin you will not lose the /gallery/ or /ngg_styles/ folders … you could also just simply manually over-write the installation via FTP as well.

No, didn’t work. If you could answer another question that would be great, cause I’m a big fan of this plugin and have recommended and rated it highly and I’ve got the same situation on three other sites that have not updated yet.

They are all on old GoDaddy account so the version of MySql was 5.0. I had reviewed the requirements on another post and called and had them change that.

So my question is does the fact that it was upgraded do the same as if it started that way. Because I have the option of updating all these sites to new servers and if that might be the answer it’s a ton of work for me but I’d like to keep these people happy.

This client wasn’t willing to share password but if this happens on others I’ll see if I can work that out so you can see for yourself for the bug.

    thanks for your help.

@jefferytodd – A very common issue with GoDaddy subscribers is the use of the standard default (numeric) WordPress Permalinks … if that is what is in use then I would recommend changing that to something like “Post name” or “Month name” … basically anything other than the default numeric style.

See if that helps to sort out the issue.

    Thanks!

Real quick in case anyone reads this, want to say I love this plugin and this one has me stumped.

I always use /%postname%/ and reverted back to the default, regenerated the .htaccess and still have the problem. I have three sites in similar situations and created a fourth .dev and they all upgraded fine. There is something that happened here and I just can’t find it. You know that can drive you batty. ??

I am at the point thinking that it’s just something that happens. Sometimes you just have to reload and that might be the only option.

mine broke when I upgraded to nextgen gallery 2.0.61.
I have now tried the new wordpress version 3.9 and it is still broken.
I am going to try to roleback nextgen per support article.
    https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/how-to-rollback-a-version/

Rolling back to 2.0.59 did not help.
Seeing i was just starting with this site and only had the start of a few galleries i am going to uninstall and re-install it clean.

No go with clean install either

Good News. after doing the clean install and once again shutting down all other plugins. I was able to find the plugin “PTA Volunteer Sign Up Sheets” that was causing the issue. I am not sure why this did not work before doing the clean install but I have it working now and that is all that matters.
