• Upgrading from 2.5 to 2.9 I apparently screwed something up. Nothing fixes issue. I, at this point, just need the domain name so I can start over. I did not do a back up – my old information was useful but not applicable to new blog. If there is a way to keep the posts/content I would like to, but don’t have to.

    Thanks

  • Oh, I write regularly about this on my blog and Twitter – that is about not attempting the auto update from the WordPress Dashboard from any version prior to 2.7.1 as the SQL is often not up to date and neither is the PHP.

I offer update services for WordPress. There’s hardly a week that goes by where I do not do this for clients.

Did you attempt the automatic update? Bad….

You did not loose anything – but maybe your SQL needs to be updated from a SQL 4 to SQL 5 (contact your hosting company).

You will need to access your current SQL via phpmyadmin to recuperate your posts and content.

    Good luck!

Thanks, will get with my hosting company. The only way to upgrade in 2.5 is to do it with FTP there is no upgrade button. So the outdated SQL is what is causing the problem?

Still, how do I delete the blog?

    Thanks

OK – thanks for letting me know about 2.5. Sometimes people click on the “Update automatically” and run into problems.

So you want to delete the blog and start from scratch?

Access your files on your server via FTP. Delete them all and reinstall a fresh version of WordPress.

Do you have a theme and plugins that you are using? If so, make a back-up of wp-content

But you will need a new SQL database. Your hosting company will be able to help you with that.
