After upgrading I have no menu in the editor when I open an existing file.
I tried to roll back but now nothing works.
Well, as you can imagine, I really appreciate to see my work going down the drain.

Btw. its is really annoying to write a post here in the forum and when forget to give it a topic title and you press “post”, you get a message to give it a title and it sends you back to the main page and everything you have written is gone. So I don’t going to write anything else. I’m going to look for another CMS.

All my friggin work is gone!

  • Looks like you haven’t upload WordPress correctly. Please delete all of the newly uploaded content in the html folder – except the wp-content folder – and reupload the WordPress files. This time ensure that you keep the folder structure intact.

Did that and have been on hold with goDaddy some more and they have no idea lol

8bitbrit, it’s not a problem with GoDaddy (where I also am hosted) so you really need to try not to panic and follow the advice given. Who installed WP for you at Godaddy? That is, did you do it yourself via their admin panel or someone else did?

After you unzip the WordPress files on your computer, go to the Hosting Manager of your GoDaddy account and navigate to FTP File Manager. Rename your wp-config.php to wp-config1.php. Rename your the wp-content directory, to something like wp-content-OLD. Click Browse and when the files browser window opens, navigate to the WordPress folder you unzipped. Select any one file (don’t double click) and then do Ctrl+A (Control and A) on your keyboard. Click Open and the Upload.

After the files are uploaded, rename the new wp-contentto something like wp-content-NEW and revert the one called wp-content-OLD to the original name: wp-content. Rename wp-config1.php to wp-config.php. Follow the advice given by the previous posters.

Thank you. GoDaddy actually did and is fixing the issue right now on their end. Thank you all for your help.

If it’s not a commercial site, i’ll help you out for free over the phone (US or CA) or skype. Click on my name and send me your contact info.

8bitbrit attennd to your upgrade immediately because I see your site is exposed to potentially be taken over by anyone who passes by now.

In fact, based on the message I got when I visited your site I’m wondering whether a database upgrade in required for some of us and if this is part of your original problem Let’s hear from the gurus:

    “Database Update Required

“WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

“The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.”

With a button “Upgrade WlordPress Database”

Now I’m scared to update WP.

Great that GoDaddy’s customer service was good and helped you in that way because with the amount of sites they host they can’t really extend that level of individual support without bumping up the prices for hosting. ??

    Good luck.

Yes thank you, I noticed that last night but unfortunately had to have them fix that error as well.

I would not update right now. This whole debacle occurred because of the new update and a fail GoDadddy employee messing the back end of my site up.

I’m now looking into filezilla for back up usage though I’ve never used it, wish me luck.

Good luck, and that’s good that you’ll get a complete file backup. But please also read up on performing a full database backup as well.

All of your content (posts, comments, pages) are in the database. Just a file backup won’t get those too.

I know it’s a lot but at the end of this backup process you’ll have a complete backup. It’s the best safety net you can get.

After deleting every single file (except for /wp-content) I managed the upgrade. Is this the only possible way to make an upgrade? I know, it shouldn’t, but even to knock out all plugins won’t make automated update possible. Also trying to overwrite the okd files with the new ones failed (but not for all files, only a few). So they have to be deleted manually. After that it is possible to copy all the necessary files to the server without having issues. Not the easiest way to make an upgrade. But now for me its solved.

Can someone please help me with this. I called my hosting provider 000webhost since they offer the WP Application as a SERVICE and they can’t help me now since the update apparently didn’t complete….

This is the error I am getting: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare debug_fopen() (previously declared in /home/a8705572/public_html/RAM/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php:1133) in /home/a8705572/public_html/RAM/wordpress/wp-includes/functions.php:1133) on line 2883

    This is my site: https://devkip.tk/RAM/wordpress

I need help, I don’t know how to fix it within my FTP as they suggested I do. No I don’t have a back up of things at this time. Please email me [email address removed] or respond. I’m in dire need of help.
