UPGRADE YOUR DAMN SITES

whooami – Not everyone is a tech, as it is has been said before. I am trying to figure out if I am allowed to upgrade my WP or if my host has control over what version I use. I am asking questions in these support forums, as well as RFMing, and otherwise seeking out the information so I *can* learn how to drive WP…AFTER I read through the docs. I’m not saying the information is not in there, but when I first read through it, I did not understand what it was talking about. Now, after playing with WP for awhile, it is making more sense.

I greatly appreciate the help I have received from other users, moderators and plug-in authors.

I agree that a responsible webmaster needs to either learn, or use an OTB setup. Just have a little patience with those of us who are still learning. And for those of us who do this “for fun” in our spare time, it may take a little longer to learn.

I’d love to have some feedback on my recent question

I have never said that anyone needs to be a technician to use WordPress. What I said was this:

Is it too much to ask that people actually take the time to be RESPONSIBLE web masters and actually do necessary maintenance on their sites, instead of worrying about a fricken plugin???”

I could even argue that there are plenty of dumb people that manage to set up and administer WP just fine.

It wasnt until Kahil posted a bunch of tripe (aka excuses) that this thread turned into anything beyond that.

I didn’t start this thread to get into a pissing match – I started it to get people to see one more post here where people are urged to upgrade.

It’s very simple.

There is nothing that will be more frustrating to anyone than coming here after you have had your site compromised — it will pale in comparison to any frustration felt by not having that perfect plugin, that perfect Ajax menu, that perfect whatever.

whooami, you can’t use that one thread to assume you know anyone here. I, and others, have said these things based on several posts in several threads you have been involved in. You have a strong tendency to jump on and belittle people here in this forum simply because of their lack of knowledge which seems to frustrate you to no end. Again, its not what you have said, its how you have said those things.

if someone comes here asking for help with their wordpress, and if they mention that they are using an older version, don’t jump on them for that. at most, suggest they upgrade.

and moving on .. instead of worrying about what I do or don’t do .. you ought to be worrying about yourself and the horrendously uninformed advice you give.

here! here! kahil! these “volunteers” (this only refers to a very few, the others have been very helpful and I want to thank them) who think that everyone should be indebted to them. a perfect example of that would be handysolo. we don’t need volunteers like that. they act as if they are some supreme being and treat people like @#%*!

how is my advice any more or less informed than anyone else’s here? Oh yeah, I forgot, I dropped out and never got my WordPress PHD…lol… My help here is no more or less informed than your’s or anyone else’s here (outside the developers that is). All of us, you included, learned WordPress by using it and coming here for help and information. Hell, you may have already known the type of code used in WordPress, who knows. But that does not give you or anyone else the right to make another here feel inferior to you, let alone indebted.
