Upgraded to 2.5, now pages don’t display…WTF?

    Upgrade to 2.5 went ahead no problems, then when I test out my site I noticed that all my ‘pages’ were not found (e..g no post matched criteria) when I clicked on them.

    I’ve confirmed that the content is still there; tried editing/saving the pages again to see if it would make a difference but it doesn’t.

    can someone please tell me how to get my pages displaying again in 2.5 please?

    I’ve also noticed that 2.5 is MUCH SLOWER than the previous 2.3.3 version. It’s taking ages to get anything to load.
    Help?!?

  • dlo your solution worked for me, I downloaded your rewrite.php, uploaded it to my server, went into permalinks and set to default +saved, added my custom path name (/index.php/%postname%)+saved, worked like a charm… my pages are back. Thank you.

    Just to clear up some confusion in this thread, people use the /index.php/ in the permalink structure when they aren’t allowed to access the .htaccess file with their host (like with Yahoo!). adding index.php to your uri isn’t ideal but it beats ?23423234.

    Hi, sorry to go on about this, but I’m jealous as so many people seem to have regained their bloglife with dlo’s fix…

    I haven’t found the right place to drop the file into, I guess – where should it go (on the server, I take it)?

    I.e. what if I can’t find ‘includes’… I know, not very smart, but please help the unworthy =)

    @slow_sl : In fact, the rewrite.php file is located in the wp-includes directory of your WordPress installed on the server.

    Dlo, it is a request for you to look at problem described in https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/170853 and confirm if your fix indeed works on category and archive links.

    I’m afraid your problem is not solved by the fix described in this post. If you don’t have a permalink structure beginning by /index.php/… (aka PATHINFO permalink), the fix will have no effect on your blog’s behaviour.

    Does that mean that I will not be able to upgrade, ever? ??

    Any advice? Would this qualify as a defect if I want to log one? Also, is there someone who can guide me if I want to install wordpress on my blog from scratch and migrate all the existing data to it?

    Hi I ran into this problem too and I’m on Brinkster Windows hosting. The permalink I’m using is:
    /index.php/archive/%postname%/

    After upgrading from v2.2 to v2.5, none of the links to either posts, pages, categories or calendars work. However, when I change permalinks back to the default setting, everything goes back to normal. Now I’m pretty sure it’s got nothing to do with my hosting provider as custom permalinks were working on the older version.

    Anyone have any idea on what else I can try? I tried using the modified rewrite.php by dlo but had no joy with it. ??

    None of the offered solutions worked for me. Funny enough,,, I installed a brand new blog,,, went pretty good altogether,, then I went and had a smoke and a coffee,,, and when I came back,, I refreshed the page and OOOOPSSS,,, all gone,,, POOOFFF! Unless a squirrel sneaked up and changed something, I must have a computer ghost!

    I am new to wordPress.
    I have been searching through the forum for 2 days for a solution of permalink.
    I am now using version 2.5.1.
    My problem is by using the default permalink everything works fine but when I change it to /index.php/%postname%/,it didn’t work and cause a CGI ERROR.
    After a few time of CGI ERROR, it will cause server unavailable.
    I can’t find htaccess file in the wordPress folder. I try to create htaccess file on my own but I don’t really know what the content should put in the file.
    I have also update rewrite.php but it doesn’t work.

    I have a problem with permalinks: all the pages “pretty links” are fine, but it breaks my RSS feeds (I have yahoo and they don’t allow .htaccess).
    I’m new at wordpress, will this patch you guys are talking about fix it?

    I’ve just had a disaster with the rewrite.php file – I read through this thread carefully, downloaded the rewrite.php file and copied it to my server. The site stopped working; nothing will load. I deleted it from the server and restored the original version, but the problem is the same – the browser attempts to load the page for about 10 mins and then either a database connection error comes up, or it says ‘The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.’. I haven’t changed anything else on the server. Anyone have any ideas what might be going wrong? I’ve tried copying the rewrite.php file in binary and ascii modes…
