• I really hope someone is able to help!
    Yesterday I upgraded to 5.1 and all appeared fine. I created a new blog post and noticed that it was failing to save. I tried pressing publish – after which it DID publish to the front page however failed to load when selected. Also failed to load in the backend.
    This morning I was able to load the blog post on my phone, then came to login on my computer and now enture site (front end and admin) will not load at all siting “error in establishing a database connection”.
    I was prepared to work through the publishing issues following the advice in forums but am really stuck now as simply can’t access site at all.

    I am not a developer but not a beginner – will try to take any advice offered!

    Thank you!

    Site appears to be loading on the frontend, so at least users can access it without an issue.

    About the backend issue, can you try clearing the cache in your browser, and try again?

    Maybe even try a different browser so as to ensure its not a caching issue thats causing the problem.

    Phew that worked thank you very much.

    Can I ask you to click on the top post “Exceptional Accommodation” to see if it loads for you?

    Any other advice you might have around the issues I am having with posts I build unable to update/save would be appreciated. Perhaps I should revert to the old editor?

    Really appreciate your time and expertise!

    Its good to know that it worked ??

    About your site, it seems you tried to upgrade all plugin/themes, which is why site was under maintenance for a while and then started giving 500 internal server error.

    You can remove the plugin named “Gutenberg” as this is already included in WordPress core. In case you want to switch to older editor, you can try using classic editor plugin.

    For some reason, the post “Exceptional Accommodation” isn’t loading, and giving 500 Internal Server error. You might need to login to your hosting account and see if you can access any error logs. It would be easier to debug if I know what errors are there.

    @studiohome

    I tested out other posts on your website as well, it turns out that the issue is with that particular post “Exceptional Accommodation”, apart from that, rest of the posts are working fine.

    Are you using any shortcode in that post?

    Can you try removing it so as to see if thats causing the issue?

    Thank you!
    I have requested information from my hosting company right now.

    That particular post was the first made using the upgraded site. By shortcode …would this refer to embedded posts? I was embdedding posts from instagram (which I have done a number of times before the upgrade) and perhaps this is an issue?

    I also have a PHP update that I need to do but need to update my site first. I have tried doing this using Updraft last night but nothing was working. I will try again and see how I go.

    You are a guru!!

    @studiohome

    Thanks for the complement and always welcome ??

    If you have any error logs from the hosting company, do post them here on the forum, and I’ll go through to figure out what could be the cause of this post issue and would be happy to help.

    @studiohome

    Just checking in to know if you’ve made any progress with the page. I tried accessing the page today as well, but it still wasn’t loading.

    Out of curiosity, which PHP version are you using? Maybe if I can replicate the exact environment on your site, I’ll be able to replicate the issue on my development server as well. I’ll need list of which plugins you’re using and their versions as well as which PHP version is being used on the server.

    Hi @gagan0123

    I haven’t heard back from my hosting yet and didn’t have time to trouble shoot but am sitting down to do now.
    I don’t know what PHP I am using? Obviously I need to update it and my hurdle has been getting back up using Updraft. My website seems to be so crippled at the moment that when I try to install the plug in I get this error:

    Installation failed: 500 Internal Server Error <!–[if lte IE 6]><![endif]–> Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Web Server at studiohome.co.nz <!– – Unfortunately, Microsoft has added a clever new – “feature” to Internet Explorer. If the text of – an error’s message is “too small”, specifically – less than 512 bytes, Internet Explorer returns – its own error message. You can turn that off, – but it’s pretty tricky to find switch called – “smart error messages”. Any suggestions? Perhaps go for PHP update regardless as I think this might be the major issue

    Thank you!

    @studiohome

    Maybe you can try to get a few errors/details from the WordPress itself with the help of a plugin named “Health Check”
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

    It can generate a lot of information that you can provide here for further debugging(as described in the plugin description).

    Or maybe you can wait for hosting company to reply, as they have better way to approach your problem, having access to the error logs and knowing whats installed on the server.

    thank you I have just loaded to my site. It is recommending a back up again which I can’t so should I just go for it?

    @studiohome

    Since the site is having “Internal Server Error” pages while installing plugin or editing that particular post, I don’t know if backup would work, but try it if you can, in case something goes wrong on the site, you’ll have a backup to restore from.

    Yes I have tried a couple of times and its not working so might just have to risk it?

    @studiohome

    If you have access to your hosting account, you can directly login there, and make a copy of your WordPress files as well as database.
