• We’ve been having a difficulty seeing published pages and have read that the theme should be updated at least to rule this out as an issue.

Are there any issues to be aware of upgrading from 1.4 to 1.7.

We don’t have a child theme but have heard this is better to have when upgrading or switching themes?

In any case, what would you recommend?

  • If you have made extensive changes, you should have done them in a child theme. If so, you won’t have lost those changes.

Stillman, I’m new to the website and not sure what changes were made to the theme if any. Is there a way to tell – a system log of some sort?

A child theme wasn’t created in any case. Is it possible to create a child theme from the main theme at this point and then upgrade from 1.4 to 1.7? If I do upgrade to 1.7 without a child theme, should I expect whatever changes were made to be lost, or does the upgrade process carry them forward?

    Thanks,
    Larry

    Larry,

Sorry I can’t help you immediately. There are ways of comparing and contrasting the files you have with the original theme files.

If there have been a lot of changes specific to your site, you should be able to find them in the theme folder. The major places would be the style.css file, the functions.php file and in the template-parts directory. There may be other places, but it depends on how ingenious the person before you was.

You will lose everything when you upgrade, because everything will be overwritten.

    Regards,
    Stilman
