• Sorry, I didn’t know where to put up this topic. Anyways, I wanted to upgrade my website from WordPress 2.1 to 2.2. I prefer the admin area usability to the old one. Now, I have followed the upgrade detailed instruction page. At first I had went for the quick 5 step version but then nothing happened, so I went with the detailed version.

Neither is working for me. When I direct my site to wp-admin/upgrade.php, it says that I don’t need to upgrade and that my database is already updated. Am I suppose to delete everything from my database or something? I don’t get it why it’s not updating my WordPress.

Also, if anyone can direct me to a hosting company that has this ability in it, so that later on I can host with them and upgrade from their control panel, than pulling my hair from trying to figure out how to do it.

I followed the steps, step by step. I backed up my database using phpAdmin. I then deleted the files I was suppose to delete and kept what I was suppose to keep and then I just FTP all the files.

Nothing worked, same old 2.1 version.

Thanks to anyone who can help me!

    God forbid!
Unless you want to lose your content.

No, you don’t want automatic upgrade, believe me ??

The admin in 21. and 2.2 are the same – that shouldn’t be a reason for upgrading. The real reason is security.

Are you sure you are uploading the new WP 2.2 files?

What tells you it’s still 2.1?

Because 2.1 and 2.2 look very similar, you might need to check the bottom of the admin pages and see what version it says you’ve got. Maybe you already did/know this ??

its not 2.1 you can see the version in the feed.

its not 2.2.1 though — which is where she needs to go next

    nice tshirt btw ??

Okay, I guess I got a very old version lol. But that’s how I know it’s not upgrading. Because this version is clearly different from the 2.2.1. I have another site that’s running under the 2.2.1 version, and that’s how I know the difference. I am confused on how it’s not working at all.

Oh and thanks for the comment about the tee :O)

    so moshu’s suggestion
Are you sure you are uploading the new WP 2.2 files?

how’d that turn out for ya?

    by the way
    what’s different about it?

the version # is displayed at the bottom of the Dashboard, all versions

Okay, the problem I have is that on one of my private blogs, the WP on it’s Write Post page, has the ability to show a visual and a code entry section. It’s right at the top of the entry section, saying Visual and Code. They are tab options and you can choose if you want to write your post entry either seeing the code, or just seeing the images through visual instead of seeing the tags.

Now, the blog that I have on this profile on WP, has the option only for Code. All I see the is the code, I happen to enjoy seeing the Visual and when I need it the code.

I checked and saw that the blog on my profile here, has 2.2 on it, and the other private one, has the same 2.2 in it. It doesn’t make sense to me, as it’s the same version but the Write Post section is completely different.

Can anyone explain this to me? Maybe I wouldn’t need to bother with updating, as I am updated. Maybe I just need some logic for all of this. Thanks again.

Nope, you need to study and learn the admin panel’s features in the tool you are using – it is that simple.
    admin . Users > Your profile…

Yeah I did that, but it still doesn’t give me that option to look at Visual or Code. I know that my versions are the same, and I’ve went through both of them side by side to see if there is a difference and clearly in any other area of the admin, doesn’t provide me with any ability to make my Write a Post page have an option of Visual or Code.

But, I will check out your page moshu, and see if maybe I can find something there, seeing as it’s a wp 101.

Ok nevermind, I see there is no support on your site, but I will sure purchase the book when you publish it lol.

to change the interface to get both a visual and code tab option:
Go to Users –> your profile

make sure the “Use the visual editor when writing” box is checked.
