  • temporarily chmod the /wp-content directory to 777 with ftp client or host’s file manager
do the upgrade, then chmod back to 755
hopefully it will work normally after that

    Thanks for the idea!

I chmod the file to 777 and tried the upgrade. Here is what I get now.

    “Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.0.1.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

Incompatible Archive.: PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature

    Installation Failed”

I can’t believe that it’s telling me that the file is not a zip, it’s wordpress’s own file.

    Any ideas on this error?

your host may not allow this – ask them
    you could do it manually

    Thanks for the help.

I contacted hostgator and they said that they allowed this sort of stuff so I’m assuming that it’s a corrupt file on my end now so I will try to re-install wordpress and see what happens.

    Unpacking the update…

    Could not create directory.: /home/ramavara/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-3.tmp

    Installation Failed

“This error is coming please tell how to resolve it”
    please give some idea

I got the exact same error, but I fixed it. I did this:

    1) I uninstalled WP
    2) I upgraded my hosting account (didn’t have much space left before I tried to upgrade WP)
    3) Installed WP again
    4) Upgraded WP

The space might have been irrelevant, or not… try uninstalling and reinstalling WP first… If it doesn’t work, check how much space you have left.
