• Obviously I’ve been a little behind on these things. =P

Is it possible to upgrade directly from 1.5.2 to 2.0.4? Will I get all the files I need from the 2.0.4 download?

If not, is there a location whereby I can get the necessary in-between upgrade(s)?

    Thanks.

For other upgrade paths, such as 1.5.2 to 2.0.3 or 2.0 or 2.0.1 to 2.0.3, please see the Detailed Instructions or How to Upgrade in Five Steps.

Might want to look at the Detailed Upgrade Instructions for 1.5.x to 2.0.3 and 2.0 to 2.0.3

Hi. I’m in the same boat as autumneve up there, and looked through those differing upgrade paths. My question, though, is where do I find 2.0 and 2.0.3? The download page only has the current version (2.0.4).

    Thanks!

Hi! Same boat here too: currently on 1.5.2 and wondering if I can go straight to 2.0.4.

    I’d go for 1.5.2 to 2.0.3 and then 2.0.3 to 2.0.4, but I can’t find 2.0.3 to download.

I don’t know whether I have or should have a “.htaccess” file. Where is located? And what does it do?

.htaccess is in the root of your WordPress install. It tells your webserver what special instructions exist to handle your files when they get servers out to your visitors.

OK, I don’t see “.htaccess”; now for the next question: In the detailed section of the 5-step upgrade procedure, after telling us in step #7 NOT to delete “wp-content”, “wp-config.php”, etc., in step #8 it tells up to upload the new files. But the upload is going to overwrite old files of the same name.

Does the procedure mean to say that we should copy “wp-content”, “wp-config.php”, etc., to a safe place?

Hi Whooami // I’m going to upgrade my 1.5.2. to 2.0.4 now .. I read that on the https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress that it kind of seems like you should upgrade from 1.5.2 to 2.0.3 and then upgrade from 2.0.3. to 2.0.4

But, Step 3: Overwrite Files says .. and then “Get the latest and greatest WordPress (https://www.ads-software.com/download) … I am lucky, because I have both zip files of 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 but, I think I would like to just go to the 2.0.4 directly.

I’m backing up files – if anybody suggests that I DO NOT use 2.0.4 and just upgrade to 2.0.3…. please say so as soon as possible! If not, I’ll come back and let you all know how it works out.

Beaniecopter .. some FTP programs do not show the .htaccess .. usually, there might be a box to do a partial search … if you can – search for *.* and then it should show up.

I have successfully upgraded from 1.5.2 version directly to 2.0.4 version https://PetLvr.com/blog/

I will document how I did it (another day) at https://HART-Empire.com .. for future use .. that may help anybody else having problems or concerns.

    PetLvr,

Thank you very much! I was about to attempt upgrading directly like you did. I am reading your post right now, and now I’m really looking forward to upgrade.

    Again, thanks a lot!

It worked! It looks like you can upgrade directly from 1.5.2 to 2.0.4.

I guess the Codex hasn’t been updated after after 2.0.4 was released. AFAIK it was a security release (which means no big modifications in the DB structure), so probably it is safe to say you can go from 1.5.x to 2.0.4 directly.
