I tried to use the “upgrade automatically” option in admin and it didn’t work. I got an error message while it was unpacking the files. Something about not being able to rename a class in class-pclzip.php. Sorry, I didn’t save the actual message.

Then I tried WPAU but it says that my installation is up to date.

    What’s up with that?

I have done a manual upgrade (once) for a client, but I really prefer to use WPAU.

    Thanks

I tried again today on another site. I maintain about a half dozen blog at this point, and that number is likely to grow, so this automatic upgrade thing is a real time & headache saver.

First WPAU which said the site was up to date.

Then I tried the installer in the admin and the site asked for the ftp login. This site asks for this info when I install other things as well, so I know it works.

However the automatic upgrade didn’t work. I got the same error message:

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-2.7.1.zip

    Unpacking the core update

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pclzip in /usr/local/4admin/apache/vhosts/XXX.com/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 171

The WordPress automatic plug in is incompatible with the built in automatic upgrade feature. You need to delete the plug in for the built in to operate correctly.

    Excellent. Worked perfectly.
