Quite honestly, sounds almost like an issue with the database and something being hung up capping your memory or cpu usage.

Check your database – if you don’t have access to view and reset, you may need to contact your system admin or the host provider for them to investigate.

Yikes….I just received the below response from my hosting provider:

Thank you for contacting Online Support. Our database administrators monitor the servers to balance the database load across the servers. Shared servers will experience some performance issues due to the nature of sharing the server with other customers. This issue can be caused by the application interfacing with the database or just to the amount of content the site contains. You can improve performance by optimizing the fields and tables of your database.

What does this mean? What do I need to do?

I have not touched anything on my website (that technical) since I installed WordPress for the first time over a year and a half ago.
This issue just started yesterday and I am at a loss as to why it happened and what to do….

Again, my site is almost 2 years old, it has no bandwith draining images or programs and I cannot figure out how “optimize” my database. That is way beyond my technical expertise.

I really wish WordPress would offer a “pay per incident” service, as I would love to have something like this I could take advantage of.

Try calling them. Every time I’ve had to update a version, the server needed a good restart.

They shouldn’t give you a hard time about it. Stopping and restarting the service is a pretty painless task and it at least will eliminate that as a possibility.

Could this be a sign of an attempted hack on my site?

I am wondering what caused this, as I don’t use many plugins (I tried deleting all plugins and that didn’t solve anything) and how to fix it/avoid it in the future.

Could I possibly fix the problem by simply reinstalling a fresh copy of WordPress 2.6 over my current copy of 2.6 (and avoid losing any content)?

I did call them Leonaiart….

They have escalated the problem to their server admin. I also put in an online ticket.

I updated to 2.6 well over a month ago, and have not had any problems since. Yesterday was the first time I had an issue…..and I have not touched my site (uploading content etc) in well over a week.

I cannot forsee how the database could become corrupt or whatever else without me, a potential hacker, or godaddy being involved.

I cannot isolate the issue here and that is what is frustrating.

It is possible, but I really doubt it. Usually a good host will put a denial of service on your site because a hacker will start sending massive quantities of packets through it bottlenecking all of the bandwidth from the rest of their clients. Its this sort of abuse that would “slow loadtimes” … but only until they shut down accessibility to the site.

Do you know if you’re running apache or…?

I still believe its a potential issue w/ apache hanging or a service causing the db lock up. I have it happen on my onlinegamingradio.com site every once in a while which sees updates about 1-2 times annually. If it is related to the upgrade, it may potentially be one of those issues where its a slow but gradual build – in a similar way as adding 1 pebble a day to a bucket – it will eventually fill that bucket to overflowing.

Other things that may cause this would be the introduction of new scripts, but if you’ve not added any new plugins or done any other updating of that sort then…

How could I determine if this issue is related to the upgrade to 2.6 that I did about 1 month ago (or whenever it first came out)?

I like your pebble in the bucket analogy….but what could be the cause?

Should I install the wp-super-cache plugin? Could that help?

I just restored my database to where I had backed it up last week (when the site was working just fine) and the site still runs slow. Does this rule out the possibility of the issue being on my end (as opposed to the issue being with my hosting company?)?

Should I download a new copy of 2.6 and try to reinstall it?

Here is Godaddy’s latest response to my ticket:

Your site does appear to load a bit slowly but I’m not showing any issues with the server that you are on. If you try loading any static content on the page (such as images, plain html documents) you will see that these load very quickly so it appears that the issue is not with the server but with the code on some pages. The best solution in most cases is to optimize the code for efficiency to ensure it loads as fast as possible. (If your site uses databases, check those as well. Make sure all database connections are closed at the end of query.) If that is not an option, then you may want to consider purchasing a server for quicker loading times.

With regards to the bolded parts…..is this a sign that my site has been hacked or compromised? I have restored my database on the server to when the site was working fine last week. This did not resolve it.
Should I reinstall WordPress 2.6? Is there some sort of issue with WordPress 2.6 that causes some sites to run slow?

I don’t get it….I have not touched my site in over 2 weeks…..yet, yeseterday it all of a sudden starting running very slow. I have spoken with a Moderator from this website and he told me his website (that is hosted with Godaddy) is running “very slow” at the moment.

I honestly don’t believe a word that Godaddy says, and the only reason I am with them (on a shared hosting account) is because I don’t know of a better company to go with.

I’m stumped, Godaddy is claiming it is my “database”, I have no technical knowledge on how to fix this issue or what to even look for.
