• I’m currently happily running wp1.0.1 on my domain.
However, due to some hosting ‘issues’ I will soon be moving servers, and will therefore be reinstalling wordpress. I thought I may as well install 1.2 while I’m at it.
However, I’ve spent quite a lot of time customising my index.php file. So my question is, will my old (1.0.1) index file work with 1.2, or will I have to start again and re-customise the new file?
I looked at the standard index.php for both versions, and I can see quite a few differences in the coding, so I’m thinking I may have to start from scratch. Any personal experiences would be great, or if anyone can direct me to somewhere that outlines the main differences in coding I would appreciate that too. I’ve searched but nothing useful has come up
    Thanks ??

  • You won’t have to start from scratch. Just make sure you have a backup of your existing files. When you move up to the new version, you can, in most cases, simply copy and paste your stuff into the newly-installed files. There may be a few odds and ends you have to track down, but as long as you have a backup that you can “harvest” stuff from, you are in business.
My first upgrade was to version 0.72, and I’ve done every upgrade since then. I’ve only had to start from scratch when I did a complete redesign.

at max few tags would require replacement with the latest versions. i would suggest waiting for 1.3 coz it brings with it more changes to the code…

the only thing that killed my code was the old weblogs.com update bit.
Although I did re-write my index afterwards anyway to fit 1.2 tags rather than those from 1.01, just because.:)
