• Hiyas ~

I’m ready to upgrade to the latest Twenty Eleven.

What’s the best way to do this? I have d/l the zip to my computer, and I can FTP the theme up to my server and put it next to the other themes in the Themes folder. (Or … replace the older version in the Themes folder?) Then what? Copy my Child theme in there from backup as well as the Plugins folder? Do I have to re-install plugins?

Have I somehow missed a FAQ on this in the Codex? Searched to no avail. Thanks as always in advance!

  • If there is an update for the twenty eleven theme and you haven’t made any changes to it directly, you can use the WP updater on the dashboard. It’s safe if you’re using a child theme (as you mentioned).

    If you’re going to upload:
    – search for the themes folder (wp-content/themes)
    – leave your child theme folder unchanged
    – delete the existing twentyeleven folder (wp-content/themes/twentyeleven)
    – upload the new twentyeleven folder in wp-content/themes

Thanks! Now my comments came back on pages. Hmmm … Everything else is a-ok though. In my Child theme is a page.php that takes comments out, but I see they are still there on pages. Not on posts. I want no commenting on the site because it’s more a site than a blog.

    Sorry!

Comments came back on About Us, School and Community. I had gotten them all out, then I upgraded and they were back.

Check your settings on the dashboard.
