Upload Custom File to CDN

I have created a plugin that will get and save a remote file locally. I am using W3TC + CDN + S3 setup and would need to have this file also added to the S3 CDN. The file is saved as a post_meta field currently. Do I need to save the file as an attachment, or can I hook into the CDN implementation to simply push the file up?
