  • Same thing here. The problem seems to be the encoding. This is what I did: opened my Excel file in Numbers (an Apple app) and exported as a cvs file, using Unicode UTF8 encoding. Then it worked. It might be a Mac problem?

Thanks @ellenloehman. Saving to a Windows CSV in Mac Excel fixed the issue I was having too.

Same issue, and i have tried saving as utf-8 and windows csv. No users, no errors.

My problem is probably that my csv file has no quotation marks. Joomla doesn’t provide them and I can’t get Excel to insert them. Not too happy at the prospect of manually editing the csv file. Has anyone solved this?

YES Custom format in Excel. You are welcome.

Thanks, this also worked for me:
Excel > Save As… > ‘Windows Comma Separated’ format
