I have a site that has about 6000 portraits (photos)in all the albums combined. Each photo is named by a person’s first and last name.they are searchable by first/last name.

I want to invite each person to search for their photo and then have them upload a sentence to one or two of the custom fields.

I dont want them to add any more photos, just find their photo and then upload their sentence so it is attached to one of their photo’s custom fields (which i will display in the description).

Is there a way to have an upload feature for just this? One that has a measure of security too, so that other people cannot upload on theirs?

    Let me know.

Try this ( on a test site ):

Tick Table VII-D2.1 Uploader edit. This allows the uploader to edit photo info of its own photos.

To restrict some items, set them ‘restricted’ in Table VII-C. Tick them all. If this is almost what you want, but you want some more items to be restrictable, pls let me know.

, the only issue is, none of these people have uploaded any photos, they give me their drawings and I am the uploader.

There’s no way that a person can find their drawing and then join as a member on the drawing?

How should i detect that the current user is related to the photo?

What do you suggest? Should I install some kind of user registration plug un, then when user is registered is there a way I could have them ‘claim’ their photo?

What would you do if you were me? Or… Maybe I could have them submit their name and their sentence for the custom field and, like the comments system, I can moderate it. Would that work?

Actually, yeah if there was a comment type system that worked on one or two of the custom Fields then people could go and post something for the custom field and I could moderate it and then approve it and it would show up in their custom field. So basically it’s a common system for the custom Fields or for two or three custom fields. Would you be interested in developing something like that?

How important is the possibility for moderation for you?

I had a different idea, very simple:

If the name of the photo is equal to the users login (display) name, i could simply add the feature that this kind of users are allowed to edit the photo information (as said above) of those photos, so, say, my login name is opajaap, my display name is Opa Jaap i would be able to edit the photo information of all photos named ‘Opa Jaap’. ( if the feature is switched on ).

yes i have been thinking along those lines, as i have been installing a user profile plugin so as to get the peopelk to join as a user and update their profile first and last names. (becuase their photo names first last.jpg as you said)

    but a couple of things….

    1. what if user name doesnt start with caps? photo names have first letter of each name as capitol. ie- John Smith?

    2. to get past moderation and limit their power, I would only want then to be able to edit a few custom fields that i select, i dont want them editing other stuff on the photo. They shoudl be limited to only beign able to input a few custom fields that i define or one custom field at least. can that be done?

can it be so that when they update the custom field it will automatically be added to the custom field on the photo name?

can the update custom field(s) simply be added to their front end user profile page?

join as a user and you can see how the profiel page looks now….

or, maybe not as a part of the user profile page…. might be better to keep it standalone, so i can just make a page called “input your custom field anser here” for registered users?

or how do you mean? if Opa Jaap or opa jaap is
    1.a registered subscriber AND
    2. there is a photo on the site called Opa Jaap then

there will be a shortcode or something to send them to a page to answer a question to update one or more custom fields?

I imagine the following: A simplified front-end ‘Edit photo information’ dialog in the style of the current front-end upload dialog and the front-end edit album dialog.

What fields will be updatable should be settable in the settings admin page, and would not be more than: name, description, the custom fields (individually selectable) and tags.

It should be displayed like the current edit photo: a link under the thumbnail and under the slide, opening a pop-up window.

The admin can on the settings page choose between ‘classic’ front-end edit photo or the new one.

To decide where and if the edit link exists, should be a selectable setting, of wich one selection is the current (user is uploader) and of wich one could be – for your application – photoname matches user display name. You do not need to worry about upper-lower case, so photo name ‘Opa Jaap’ will match display name ‘opa jaap’ ( but not ‘opa jaap two’ and also not ‘opajaap’ ) etc.

    Yeah that sounds good.

and yes it would be important to have those settable restrictions on admin page… so that admin can decide which of the fields can be displayed and edited by user and which ones cannot.

Yes those fields you mentioned are all it needs to be [name, description, the custom fields (individually selectable) and tags.]

Perfect! When do you expect it to happen?

Also, is there a way that the titles of the fields on these (and on comment fields too) can be changed to sit on top of field entry rather then along side of field entry?

if i wanted to change the field titles from left side to sitting on top, is that an easy change in a functions file that i can make? if so let me know. Thanks.

I am working on that kind of lay-out changes.
I finally got myself a smartphone ( my gsm was 12 years old ) so you may expect many changes in the near future to make entering data much more comfortable, especially with themes built for mobile devices like twentysixteen. One of the changes is: caption above fields, and fields 100% wide. However, it will be an ongoing process, upload dialog first. Will be in the next release.

The new edit dialog will be one of my priority issues.

    Do the following:

    – install the current version ( WPPA+ API Version: 6-4-11-006. ) or later of the development version.
    See https://wppa.opajaap.nl/how-to-install-the-newest-development-version/

    – Table VII-D2.1: Set to ‘New style’

    – Table VII-D2.2: set to ‘Username equals photoname’

    – Optionally ( test it!!! ) tick Table VII-D2.3

    – Table II-J10.Xa,b,c have an extra checkbox, indicating if they are front-end editable. Works only with new style front-end edit.

    Works even on android.
