Upload media – goes to wrong directory

    I just uploaded a file to a WordPress 2.7.1 site, and the admin panel tells me that the file was uploaded on 2009/03/23 at 19:52:35. That’s fine, but the file’s URL is:

    /wp-content/uploads/2008/05/[filename]

    2008/05? What? It’s the only file in that directory, so it didn’t somehow confuse it with another file. The file was sent to me in an email attachment to upload, so the file date is today, from when I saved the attachment. Where did this 2008/05 date come from?

    It seems that your wp-contents folder permissions have been corrupted. Please assign 755 recursive permissions and try to upload the images..

    Before that once again please have a check correct path for the upload directory settings in wordpress admin.

    If the permissions were messed up, it would have simply not worked. Instead of creating one directory to upload files into, it created another directory to upload files into. Either way, it created a new directory (there were no files uploaded in May 2005) and successfully uploaded the file. Whether that directory was 2008/05 or 2009/03, the required permissions are the same.

    And the directory’s permissions are 755 (ditto for all subdirectories).

    I realized I missed the part about checking the upload directory path in WordPress Admin… It’s as one would expect.. wp-content/uploads, with the month/year option enabled, and nothing else enabled.

    Given that uploaded files are considered media, why are these settings in Settings->Miscellaneous instead of the Settings->Media section, where one might expect to find media upload settings?

    Same problem, here. Any resolution?

    Thanks Gionn.. I don’t really agree with that chosen method, but since it’s on purpose, I’ll go ahead and mark this resolved.
