I just change the post and upload size for my domain to 64M. When I try to upload something to the media library I am getting the following error:

Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/site/wp-content/uploads/2012/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Now this error seems pretty simple but before I do anything drastic I was curious if I should just set permission on the whole wp-content folder to write by everyone or only for the uploads folder in general?

Or should I just manually create the folder so it can upload?

  • You just need to set the uploads folder to write permissions. You may also need go to the media link in your wp settings and enter the path to your uploads folder, as this seems to be bug in the latest version of wp. It used to automatically be entered there, but on a recent install I did of the new version I found it didn’t and as a result I couldn’t get anything to upload via wp admin. Once I set the path and the permissions it worked.

Thanks I set the upload permission to write and was able to upload the file without any issues. The new issue actual insert the path automatically for me so I was ok there, only the upload part was an issue. Thanks
