Upload via FTP or “remote link”

Hello,

I’m trying to upload a rather large doc (a .zip, approx 480 MB in size) through the BP group documents to the Buddy Press group I created. Though I’ve increased my PHP upload and timeout limits to 512 MB and 180 respectively, the page still times out after the upload (done via the page) completes, and doesn’t upload the file.

Is there any way I can upload it via FTP – and if so, how do I get the system to recognize the doc through the front end? For instance, I uploaded the file I’m talking about manually through FTP yesterday, but though the file is sitting in the exact same directory as the rest of the other uploads (all visible, all done through the page) – I cannot see it on the front end.

Please advise.
