• Hi, I want to change my WP blog’s theme, so I chose a new one (jd-sky-3c-10) from the theme library.

As instructed I saved the WinZip archive containing (all?) the files for this theme to my PC. I then uploaded the entire WinZip archive (didn’t extract the files from it) to my wp-content/themes directory.

    1) Was I correct to upload the WinZip archive as one to my themes directory, rather than extracting the files from it and uploading them?

    2) After completing that upload, should I have deleted (from my themes directory) the file “Classic” or the file “Default,” or maybe both? These two folders are the ones I got when I first installed WP on my domain (www.jhwm.net) last year.

    Thank You!

  • 1. did you follow the instructions? Your answers are within the instructions.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Themes#Adding_New_Themes

    2. It doesnt make any diff. one way or the other. However, if WP has a problem with a theme that you activate, and you dont have the default theme installed, you will get a blank white page.

    1. You need to upload the theme folder, not the zip file. Of course, if your hosting control panel is cPanel you can upload the zip file and then extract it. Please review Themes, Adding new Themes.

    2. You can delete the classic and default folder if you wish as long as there is at least one theme folder. But, it’s good to leave them there to ‘test’ or to ‘fall-back’ if you have problems with your other theme.

Oops, whooami got it first ??
