uploaded images are blank

    My images upload as a gray box – no image and not a broken link. They are in the folder WP-content/uploads/2016/04 but I see only a gray box in the library. I have been reading for hours on the forums but have not found an answer to this yet. I am just getting started and any help is appreciated.
